Precision and efficiency are essential in the manufacturing industry. "And that's why torque technology also plays an essential role", explained Andreas Trefz, Head of Assembly Technology at Brütsch/Rüegger Tools, at the ToolForum event. The event "Pole position for reliable tightening technology" took place on 14 November at the Sauber Motorsport premises and attracted numerous experts from a range of sectors. Over the course of various lectures and seminars, the experts learnt how modern torque tools and technologies can be used to ensure compliance with strict quality standards, optimise work processes and also extend the service life of components. The subject is also highly relevant from a legal point of view, as costly compensation claims can arise as a result of a screw connection failing, for example. In short:

"Without precise torque control, even the most cutting-edge technology will reach its limits and lead to negative consequences", concluded Trefz.

He then handed over to various guest speakers, who in turn highlighted some of the fascinating aspects of torque technology.

Expert knowledge: The presentations at the ToolForum

Transfer of knowledge — Industrial tightening technology
Martin Hanke, Chairman of the Executive Board, Association — Association for Qualification and Transfer of Knowledge in Tightening Technology

Intelligent tightening tools for Industry 4.0
Florian Hanke, CEO, HS-Technik GmbH

Analysis, verification and testing — Digital torque wrenches for reliable screw mounting

In addition to the presentations, the visitors also enjoyed an exciting tour of the premises of the Sauber Motorsport racing team. The unique insights into the fastest racing championship in the world were met with enthusiasm by those present. Another highlight was the tabletop exhibition, which allowed visitors to exchange ideas with speakers and tool manufacturers and to learn about the latest developments in the field of torque technology.

Florian Hanke from HS-Technik GmbH captivated the audience with their talk about the tightening tools of the future.
Those who participated in the ToolForum event did not pass up the opportunity to see a Formula 1 racing car up close.

Torque training: Gain practical knowledge directly from the experts

Brütsch/Rüegger Tools is a leading provider of torque technology and offers its customers professional advice, which is enhanced by close partnerships with first-class suppliers. Training seminars, practical sessions and product demonstrations form a key element of this service portfolio. These take place either at the Brütsch/Rüegger Tools headquarters in Urdorf or directly at the customer's premises.

Ralf Weinzettl, Specialist in Assembly Technology, is responsible for this area. "With our offering, we want to offer both advice and calibration from a single source", he explains. For this purpose, customers can learn all the essentials about torque in the specially equipped demo room in Urdorf.

Lively discussion: The tabletop exhibition was the perfect opportunity to receive explanations about the tools directly from the professionals.
The proof of the pudding is in the eating: At the tabletop exhibition, visitors were able to try out the tools for themselves.

"For example, we are regularly approached by companies wanting to learn how to screw together a specific component, and we then work with them directly to develop the solution".

From demo hand tools to various pieces of test equipment such as plausibility testers and torque screwdrivers, all the necessary tools are available to meet individual customer needs. And thanks to the close partnership with the Metron Measurement SA calibration laboratory, highly precise calibration processes are also offered: Metron calibrates in accordance with SCS from 0.1 cNm to 3000 Nm and also offers repair and laser engraving services for devices.

Ralf Weinzettl and his team also support customers when it comes to the digitalisation of torque technology: The FIM EVO box—an industrial universal controller (HUB) that is capable of managing up to 12 tools at a single communication point—is becoming increasingly popular in this context. This reduces costs and simplifies integration in the company's own network.

If you would like to experience the demo room for yourself, you can get in touch with sales@brw.ch. Various training sessions on torque and tightening can also be found here
