ToolForum – Formula 1 meets workplace design

Amazing experiences at the ToolForum at Sauber

On 24 September, Brütsch/Rüegger Tools' ToolForum took place at Sauber Motorsport in Hinwil. The result was a forum that will remain in the minds of the participants for a long time to come, having provided a glimpse into the fascinating world of Formula 1 as well as first-class expertise in the area of workplace design.

How to achieve pole position in workplace design?

What does Formula 1 have to do with the world of workplace design? "In both areas, it is essential to ensure maximum efficiency for the team to be able to perform at its best", explained Andreas Trefz, Head of Assembly Technology at Brütsch/Rüegger Tools, at the ToolForum on 24 September. This exclusive event was accomplished in cooperation with suppliers and partners, resulting in an event that will be remembered by participants for a long time to come.

Andreas Trefz, Head of Assembly Technology at Brütsch/Rüegger Tools, included the audience in his presentation.

Reto Gruber, Consultant for Lean Management at Brütsch/Rüegger Tools, is also satisfied that the Forum has made its mark— in a positive way, of course.

"The state-of-the-art premises of Sauber Motorsports in Hinwil provided the perfect backdrop for our talking point."

The event began deliberately in the Swiss style, with coffee and croissants. One highlight of the morning was Gruber's contribution to the topic of "Modular workplaces in the context of lean management". His practical presentation demonstrated how modern workplace design can increase efficiency in production—a topic that visibly captivated the audience. Patrik Müller from Kanya AG directly followed up on this and provided interesting insight into the field of flexible workplace systems. Heinz Weber from Waldmann Lichttechnik rounded off the morning with a lecture on ideal workplace lighting. Here, he underlined the importance of proper lighting to benefit both health and productivity. Roland Maute  from Bimos demonstrated the relevance of correct sitting.

Formula 1 up close

After an exquisite flying dinner came another event highlight: a stunning tour through the facilities at Sauber Motorsport. The participants eagerly followed the guides, who offered them deeper insights into the fastest racing league in the world. The proximity to the racing cars and technology, something that is usually reserved for racing teams only, made for some unforgettable moments.

The afternoon was once again dominated by the subject of workplace design. The presentation by Alois Blum from Suva on tailor-made workplace solutions for industry attracted a lot of interest. "There are no 'standard' people"—using this motto, he showed how important individual adjustments are for health and safety at work. Domenico Romano from Statech Systems AG also knew how to impress with the topic “ESD - is your workplace safe?”. Ralph Scheuchzer, Managing Director of Fanair AG (topic: We design ergonomic workplaces for industry) and Patrick Benz from BENE GmbH (topic: New Work in industrial companies and its significance for the future) provided interesting insights as well.

Discussing what was seen and heard together: There was also time for dialogue.
And why not a bit of fun as well: The simulators created an authentic race feeling.

Don't miss it!

"Lean" production pays off

If you couldn't make it to the ToolForum in Hinwil, there's no need to fret—Brütsch/Rüegger Tools has also made sure that its customers can take pole position from outside the pits. One important service to that end is the practical workshop "Workplace design and ergonomics", which will next take place on 24 and 31 October and on 5 December 2024. In the Learning Centre for Ergonomics and Workplace Design (LEA), Reto Gruber provides theoretical and practical knowledge from all areas. The one-day, practical workshop comprises seven topic areas: administration, development, manufacturing, logistics, assembly, quality inspection and packaging. During each topic, workflows are defined and examined, and optimisation opportunities are revealed. A "Lean intensive practical workshop" is also offered on request.

Anyone who wants to incorporate Reto Gruber's expertise into their company directly can take advantage of the free and personal "Lean Performance Check" from Brütsch/Rüegger Tools. Our specialist appears on site, analyses your processes, points out disruptive variables and reveals cost drivers, making this three-hour service a great offer. Of course, the customer is then accompanied through the subsequent optimisation steps by an experienced professional.
